#EMR: Keeping Up With Security – Is Your Online Site Hacked?

Well you know we care about security and it’s importance to your daily lives. Whether you love the cloud or keep your data locally, it’s important to keep a security first policy. Unfortunately when Google lists a site as “being hacked” and it’s one of the medical software vendors you have listed one must do the responsible thing.

With all of the online breaches, placing doubts on web security and your personal data, I am sure this does not help. As of November 14th their site is still listed as “hacked”. We have removed York Med-Systems from our lists. Once they have cleaned up there website and added the necessary security measures we will re-list the site. For now we have added other vendors. If you know medical applications or software that should be listed let us know.

Frank Vassallo jumps into new role as CEO of the KDH

Frank Vassallo, the new CEO of the Kemptville District Hospital, doesn’t waste time. His feet hit the ground running when he entered his new role on Oct. 5.

Planning discussions are already underway for a new strategic plan at the KDH.

“Most organizations do one every two to three years,” Vassallo explained. The last KDH Strategic Plan was for 2012-2015.

“We need to really map out an effective community engagement process,” said Vassallo.

Ontario’s Family Doctors-in-Training Are Leaving the Province

Ontario’s Family Doctors-in-Training Are Leaving the Province

I am a resident physician in family medicine in my last year of training. Throughout my 13 years of postsecondary training I have had the opportunity to work closely with many different physicians in a variety of specialties, from many different backgrounds, with very different personalities, and at different stages in their lives.

One thing they all had in common was their unshakable commitment to their patients and their professional responsibilities. They routinely work 24 or more hours with few or no breaks to speak of, often neglecting their physical and mental well-being and families to help their patients who need them. As a resident, I aspire to care for my patients as well as my teachers and mentors do.

Unfortunately, it seems the current government does not share my respect for the commitment of Ontario physicians. It is no secret that our current health care system is suffering, but the actions of our government will only contribute to the problem: more people without a family doctor, longer wait times, more physician burnout.

The way to fix the system is to enlist the help of those on the front lines, engage the public in truthful dialogue about the issues and bring to light the wasteful and inefficient practices that have led us down this dangerous path to begin with.

Doc warns of longer waits for OHIP-funded procedures

Doc warns of longer waits for OHIP-funded procedures

Toronto dermatologist Ben Barankin is adamant that the cuts by Kathleen Wynne’s government to doctors’ service fees will create a huge impact on patients in the coming months.

Barankin, who has been in practice for 10 years, said staff will have to be let go, there will be longer wait times for OHIP-funded treatments and insisted the government’s moves are “pushing” specialists — like him — who also operate private clinics, closer towards a two-tiered system.
