Patients based in a South Devon town who have communication and swallowing difficulties are benefitting from the use of two iPads with a variety of specialised apps.
The iPads were purchased by Seaton and District Hospital League of Friends. The first one is intended for inpatients at Seaton Community Hospital requiring communication support, with extra applications to enhance staff training.
The second iPad will be utilised in the local community for assessment, ongoing communication therapy and education.
Seaton Community Hospital has a number of admissions due to medical events that can affect communication, such as motor neurone disease, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, multiple sclerosis and dementia.

Harrison Czapalay, 22, has been a driving force behind marking World Autism Awareness Day in Wolfville
Harrison Czapalay is hoping people in Wolfville, N.S., light the sky up blue Saturday night.
Czapalay, 22, has autism and he’s encouraging residents and businesses to put blue lights outside their front doors for one night to mark World Autism Awareness Day.
“I really want to see Wolfville lighten up blue Saturday night. That would be awesome,” he said Thursday.
“All around the world there will be different structures lit up blue on the evening of April 2nd.”

Governments across Canada have been caught in a fiscal bind over the entire period of neoliberalism. On the one hand, they have pursued austerity and restraint almost without interruption since the 1990s; and, on the other, they remain under pressure to deliver some minimal social security for welfare, healthcare, pensions and so forth. Since the eruption of the financial crisis in 2008 this contradiction, a core tension of meeting social needs in capitalist societies, has gotten worse. The combination of a long depression in economic growth and permanent austerity in government budgeting has further cramped government fiscal capacities. This has led to all kinds of efforts, following the new public management organization of the state, to privatize, contract-out, marketize and so on, government functions and services.

U.S. Republican presidential front-runner candidate Donald Trump on Wednesday unveiled proposals for reforming U.S. health care that included repealing Obamacare, allowing prescription drugs to be imported, and turning the Medicaid program for the poor into block grants to states.
“On day one of the Trump Administration, we will ask Congress to immediately deliver a full repeal of Obamacare,” reads the statement from the Trump campaign.
“However, it is not enough to simply repeal this terrible legislation. We will work with Congress to make sure we have a series of reforms ready for implementation that follow free market principles and that will restore economic freedom and certainty to everyone in this country.”

Ransomware has seriously turned on to a noxious game of Hackers to get paid effortlessly.
Once again the heat was felt by the Los Angeles-based Presbyterian Medical Center when a group of hackers had sealed all its sensitive files and demanded $17,000 USD to regain the access to those compromised data.
The devastation of the compromised files can be pitched as:
- Compromised emails
- Lockout Electronic Medical Record System [EMR]
- Encrypted patient data
- Unable to carry CT Scans of the admitted patients
- Ferried risky patients to nearby hospitals
As the situation was grown out of wild, the hospital paid 40 Bitcoins (Roughly US $17,000) to the Ransomware Criminals to resume their medical operations after gaining the decryption keys.
“The quickest and most efficient way to restore our systems and administrative functions was to pay the ransom and obtain the decryption key,” the hospital CEO Allen Stefanek said in a letter.
All the electronic medical system were restored back soon after unlocking the encrypted file locks.
The Ransomware had stolen the nights of many network administrators, as they would be often blamed to fight up this nasty threat; instead of blaming staffs who click the illegit links in their e-mail.
